Jennifer Aniston Calls For Tabloid Boycotts During Emotional ‘Ellen’ Talk

If you can’t board a flight without a couple of trashy magazines in tow or find yourself flipping through celebrity gossip rags each time you’re in the dentist office’s waiting room, Jennifer Aniston is urging you to let your tabloid-addiction lapse.

Aniston, who famously criticized Hollywood’s judgment of women in a July Huffington Post essay, emotionally sorts through her celebrity breaking point in the preview of today’s (November 30) Ellen Degeneres Show interview featured above. She explains she was in a dark place when she wrote the piece — her mother had just died and she’d found herself on the receiving end of even more “Poor Jen” pieces and pregnancy-rumor blurbs. So, she finally decided to speak up.

“I did it first really for myself,” Aniston says. “I kind of hit a wall, I was pretty raw at the time…and I was just fed up with it.”

“All of us need to take responsibility on what we ingest into our brains,” she adds. “Just because we’re women, we have a uterus, we have a vagina, we have ovaries, we need to, like, ‘Get to work, lady!’…[but] we as women do a lot of incredible things in this world other than just procreate.”

Aniston says the only remedy to anti-feminist messages in media is to “break out of” the routine of responding to clicky headline cultures and scandalous hearsay.

“We have to stop listening to [tabloids], and we have to stop buying them, because we have to support each other,” she says. “It’s up to us what makes us happy and fulfilled.”
