Sam Smith isn't looking for any guests on his next project.

His debut album, In the Lonely Hour, won a Grammy and was wildly successful, now we can't wait for Sam Smith's sophomore album. Lucky for us, Sam has already begun the labor of music love. And, as you would expect, every musician and their mom wants to collaborate with the crooner. However, Sam doesn't think he will have any special guests on this next record.

In his own words, "I feel like the album's my voice."

While talking with BBC Radio 2, Sam talked about his willingness to work with other artists, but when it comes to his own albums he likes to keep it to just Sam. His inspiration comes from other iconic artists who did the same, "I adore [Amy] Winehouse records, and Adele records, and if you go back to even Etta James records and Nina Simone and Sarah Vaughan, and I love how their album is just them, I think that's important."

So what story does Sam want to tell on this next album?

Much like In the Lonely Hour, his next album is most likely going to be more melancholy than happy, but it'll be about a different kind of melancholy than his debut. "I'm just trying to live my life and just see what happens, but I've already managed to write some pretty sad things."

Sam is currently overseas, but he'll be back in the U.S. later this month for some festival dates.
