During a party there are lots of ways to have a good time. Some people have a good time getting very intoxicated, others try to help and just sit back and enjoy the fun.

I have been on both sides of this issue. When your friends over-imbibe you want to help out any way you can. I especially relate to the check in. You are so busy walking around the party checking with everyone to make sure they are okay that you can't have a good time yourself.
