If the 4th of July is the biggest grilling weekend of the year, Labor Day Weekend is not far behind.  If your family and friends can handle an alternative from the typical greasy burger, this is a tasty and impressive idea!

I've been making turkey burgers for years, and they're super good.

If you're thinking, "Oh, turkey burgers are too healthy and I'd rather be bad," if you put enough sun dried tomato spread on top or lather it up with mayo, it can be just as unhealthy as a big fat greasy cheeseburger.   So there's that.  These can be as light or as heavy as you want, depending on how you tweak the ingredients.  You can't ruin them by experimenting.

Turkey Burgers:

1 pound of ground turkey

8 ounces of Feta cheese crumbles

A small jar of pitted Kalamata olives, pitted and diced

2 teaspoons Oregano

2 teaspoons of minced garlic

Salt and pepper to taste

A jar of sun dried tomato spread, or whole sun dried tomatoes depending on taste

Hamburger buns of your choice

Mix all of the ingredients and form into patties, then slap them on the grill until they're cooked through.  That's probably 5 or 6 minutes per side on medium heat.

If you over-cook 'em they'll turn out dry, but you could always drizzle them with some Greek salad dressing to moisten them up again after they hit the bun.  And just leave that as your topping, or spread on the sundried tomato paste.

Yum!  And it's a good alternative to the typical burger/hot dog/brat kind of cookout. Those who are low carb can leave off the bun, and if you have any dairy-free types at the barbecue you could make some burgers without the Feta.

There's a little chance of rain on Labor Day, but otherwise it will be sunny and around 90 all the way through.  Perfect weather to try out some new grilling recipes, and chase it all with some festive beverages.
