Instead of a cool front this week, we got a 'less warm front' and it's still hot in Deep East Texas. Luckily the humidity is a little lower, and after a weekend of over 100 degree temperatures it's time for a cool down. If we can't rely on the weather, how about some free ice cream?

The children's outreach ministry at Denman Avenue Baptist Church is doing just that tomorrow. Bring the kids and stop by their church parking lot for a free ice cream of their choice from Jack's Treats Ice Cream Truck.

The event is at Deman Avenue Baptist Church, Wednesday, August 19th at 6pm. They are easy to find, right off the loop in Lufkin at 11807 East Denman Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75901.The event is open to the public, and is part of the Denman Kids outreach.

Jacks Treats is a real old fashioned ice cream truck. I heard it in my neighborhood a few weeks ago. You hear that unmistakable ice cream truck music and you just know. I should have gone out and seen what what going on. Now I keep my pants closer to the door on the weekends just in case!

Having an actual ice cream truck in Lufkin is pretty interesting, and takes you back to a simpler time. I don't know how profitable that business can be, so anytime I see him, I will try to get to the truck and support a local business. I am glad that the church had the same idea - to keep what I believe is the only ice cream truck in Angelina county going.
