‘Doctor Who’ Reveals 13th Doctor Timeline, 2018 Premiere
As tends to be the case with Doctor Who announcements, we have quite some time before the departure of star Peter Capaldi takes effect, and a full season in the meantime. Now, reports suggest how and when the search for a 13th Doctor will get underway with showrunner Chris Chibnall, and when to expect Season 11’s premiere.
The tenth season was recently revealed to premiere on April 15, sending off showrunner Steven Moffat before Capaldi’s own departure/regeneration in the 2017 Christmas special. Chibnall won’t officially take over as showrunner until Season 11 in 2018, but according to RadioTimes, will oversee the selection of a new Doctor beginning in “the middle of this year” and “completed in the autumn.”
Additionally, the eleventh season is expected to start filming in early 2018 with Chibnall and the new actor, and an aim toward premiering next fall.
Elsewhere, in addition to Michelle Gomez’s likely return as Missy, Season 10 will also feature Jekyll & Hyde star Stephanie Hyam in a minor role. Pearl Mackie will also joined in the role of new companion Bill, while Peter Capaldi has suggested Jenna Coleman’s Clara might return in some form.
We’ll hear more soon, but check out the first Season 10 trailer below, and stay tuned.
