Looking at air quality surveys from airnow.gov, we are occasionally getting northerly winds that are pushing some of the 1 and 3 Butadiene (used to make rubber and other chemicals) from the Port Neches chemical plant fire. It's not a constant issue, but there have been times when our air quality has been effected pretty heavily during the course of this plant fire.

Residents of Port Neches were being told to evacuate the area to avoid these air quality issues. Now they are being told it's safe to come back. That could be because of an upcoming cold front bringing shifting northerly winds.

We pray for the thousands of residents of Port Neches that were forced from their homes on Thanksgiving, and hopeful that they will have this under control soon. I hope they will be able to spend Christmas with their families.

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - East Texas saw some fluctuations of the air quality index on Thursday, which could be attributed to the Port Neches plant explosion.

Winds shifted from the south Thursday morning and may have brought some of the chemicals from Port Neches to the area.

During certain points of the Thursday morning, the air quality index was high enough to affect some with severe COPD or asthma.

If you have family and children with asthma or COPD, please limit outside play time, and check this link https://www.airnow.gov/ Things look good right now, but this situation literally changes it's mind with the breeze.
