You will see Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman back onscreen in just a couple months, as one of the key members of Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon’s Justice League. But how long will we have to wait for a sequel? Obviously Wonder Woman 2 will happen. It’s just a matter of when.

It’s a pleasant Sunday afternoon in the world, which means it’s time for your weekend box office updates! While this was a disappointing weekend overall for a handful of new releases, there’s good news to be had: after a disappointing $144 million total gross last weekend, the box office bounced back to $187 million total over the past few days. Wonder Woman just had a record-setting opening weekend. While everyone was at the theater watching her, the woman who plays the Amazonian princess, Gal Gadot, got into a back-and-forth on Twitter with the Asgardian God of Thunder over a question comics fans have debated for years: Who would win in a fight, Wonder Woman or Thor?

The film was the top opening ever for a female director.

It was the Facebook post that launched a thousand (give or take) s— fits. When the Alamo Drafthouse announced a special women-only screening of Wonder Woman, the outrage from misogynist bros was swift, immediate and entirely insane, with many bizarrely labeling the event “sexist.” But those toxic reactions didn’t quite have the intended effect and only made the screening more popular among women, spurring the Drafthouse to turn it into a national event, much to the chagrin of all those whiny sexist internet trolls — including one particularly angry man who decided it might be more effective to bypass theater management entirely and take his complaints straight to the mayor of Austin, Texas.

There are at least 11 theatrical movies and serials starring Batman. There are 11 more with Superman. There are Suicide Squad, Constantine, Catwoman, Supergirl, Swamp Thing, and Watchmen movies. Hell, even Jonah freaking Hex got his own film seven years ago. For whatever reason, there has never been a Wonder Woman movie until this week. At least it’s here now, and it is really good.

Unless you’re living in a fallout shelter, you know that Wonder Woman hits theaters this weekend, starring Gal Gadot as DC Comics’ Goddess of Truth. But did you know that a Wonder Woman movie has been in development since at least 1996, when Ghostbusters producer Ivan Reitman was attached to the movie? Joss Whedon spent a few years working on a Wonder Woman screenplay as well, and over the years actors like Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox, and Catherine Zeta-Jones were all rumored for the title role before Gadot won it for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
