There are a lot of Texans that are looking for cash, it seems like we rarely have enough of it! We love our lifestyles and wish we could amp it up a bit and you may very well be able to do that if you're owed any money from the state of Texas! You may not be able to amp it up to a new tax bracket, but you could get enough for a little extra somethin' somethin'!

The Texas Comptroller's Office is currently in possession of over $4 billion - no that is not a typo, $4 billion! - in cash and other valuables that belong to Texas residents. State Comptroller Glenn Hegar says:

Each year we make a commitment to reunite unclaimed property with its rightful owners. I encourage all Texans to visit ClaimItTexas.org to see if the state is holding some of their unclaimed property."

Last year more than $281 million in unclaimed property and cash was returned to it's rightful owners, setting a new record for the state that was previously set in 2016 when $270 million in assets was returned! The State of Texas has been returning property and cash to Texans since 1962 with the creation of the Texas Unclaimed Property Program. Since the programs inception, the Comptroller's office has returned more than $2 billion.

Currently the state has assets in excess of $4 billion that are just waiting to be claimed from ClaimItTexas.org. This cash and assets that's just waiting to be claimed range from the following:

  • forgotten utility deposits or other refunds
  • insurance proceeds
  • payroll checks
  • cashier’s checks
  • dividends
  • mineral royalties
  • dormant bank accounts
  • abandoned safe-deposit box contents

The Texas Comptroller usually gains possession of these things when businesses generally turn property over to the unclaimed property program after it has been considered dormant for one to five years.

So if you've moved to a different apartment and never got a deposit back, it could be at ClaimItTexas.org.
So if for some reason you missed a paycheck (how could you go about missing this), it could be at ClaimItTexas.org.
So if you're owed money for mineral rights, it could be at ClaimItTexas.org.
So if you forgot about an old bank account (then you might have a little too much money!), it could be at ClaimItTexas.org.
So if you stopped paying on an old safe deposit box, your contents may be at ClaimItTexas.org.

Bottom line is, CHECK ClaimItTexas.org and see if you're owed anything!
