While Seattle and New England are battling it out on the grid iron, millions of Americans and NFL football fans around with world will be snacking it up during the biggest sporting event of the year.

When it comes to serving snacks at game watching parties, according to the research group the NPD Group, vegetables will be the most consumed snack food during game.

The trend has been pretty consistent for nearly 20 years, according to food analyst Harry Balzer. Although the kitchen counter and buffet tables are ruled by baby carrots, celery, broccoli and ranch dip, salty snacks still hold their own during the game! Sales for other snack foods like pretzels, chips, wings, pizza and beer see a spike in their sales during the Super Bowl.

Pizza Hut, Domino's and Papa John's are collectively expecting to sell 4.4 million pizzas for the parties. Pizza Hut expects to sell 2 million alone. They'll have some 60,000 drivers our delivering the pies and are expecting orders to top out at nearly 1,700 per minute throughout the chain.
