10 Popular 2012 Halloween Costumes in Lufkin [PHOTOS]
I know it's only August 2nd, but Halloween is just around the corner, and many stores are already preparing for the holiday by selling decorations, candy and costumes!
My friends and I used to try and plan our group Halloween costumes ahead of time by researching popular yet original ideas. One year we were dressed as different colored trolls, then zoo animals, road signs and pageant queens followed the next years in college.
Whether you want to avoid these or you can't wait to buy these, here's a list of (what I think will be) the 10 most popular Halloween costumes this year:
Katniss Everdeen - The Hunger Games
Without a doubt, this will probably be THE most popular costume for girls all over the world, as Katniss Everdeen became a household name when the movie The Hunger Games hit theaters in March.
Honey Boo Boo and Mama
I don't even have words to explain this costume - but I bet it's going to be a popular Halloween item since the show 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' has become a HUGE hit on TLC. The "Toddlers and Tiaras" spin-off features a day in the life of Alana aka Honey Boo Boo Child, and her family: Mama (June), Sugar Bear, Chickadee, Chubbs and Lauryn. You better "redneckonize" these costumes on the street this Halloween!
The Avengers
As the third highest grossing film in the world, the popular Avengers superheroes will surely be high on every child's Halloween costumes wish list, as it caters to both girls and boys. Also, this would make a good group costume idea!
Olympians
Michael Phelps just became the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time, the Fab Five in women's gymnastics just won the team all-around gold (which hadn't been won since 1996) and volleyball legends Misty May-Traenor and Kerri Walsh Jennings are still proving to be the team to beat at the 2012 London Olympic Games. This is definitely going to be a popular year for Olympic costumes.
Dark Shadows, Twilight, True Blood (aka Vampires)
Johnny Depp came out with a Vampire comedy/horror film called 'Dark Shadows' this year (and don't forget about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), plus the final installment of the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 is coming out in November, and the HBO series True Blood is a National hit.
In other words - you'll be seeing a lot of vampire characters out on the streets this Halloween.
Zombies
2012 is the year of the zombie, thanks to Rudy Eugene, the Miami man who ate a homeless man's face back in May.
Brave
The Disney-Pixar version of Katniss from The Hunger Games, Princess Merida makes all redheads seem cool in the box-office hit, Brave. Get ready for a ginger princess takeover this year at Halloween.
'Tanorexia'
New Jersey Tanning mom Patricia Krentcil, made headlines this year when she was accused of putting her five year old daughter into a tanning booth. Krentcil pleaded not guilty to child endangerment, but the public and media were more concerned/fascinated by the bronzed woman's skin color and crazy behavior.
Fifty Shades of Grey
The erotic novel that continues to take over bookshelves and night stands across America will sell a wide variety of merchandise, including apparel, stationery items, hosiery, lingerie and accessories starting in August. I think some young adults will be coming up with creative Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele costumes...
Breastfeeding Mom
The Time Magazine cover that shocked the world, will surely shock the neighborhood and house parties this Halloween. It's a pretty inexpensive costume if you think about it - all you need is a tank top and jeans and a fake baby on one of your boobs.
