Alexander Skarsgård hinted at the potential perils of being labeled "sexy" in Hollywood.

During an interview with The Sunday TimesSkarsgård was asked if he related to a comment attributed to Charlize Theron about the struggles of landing "meaty roles" while being viewed as attractive. To the general public, being hot would sound like a positive. However, the Bombshell actress claimed "pretty people get turned away first" from certain parts that have been deemed more serious.

The Legend of Tarzan actor initially joked that he understood Theron's point of view "as a good looking blonde woman."

He offered a more reflective answer about how having a reputation for being attractive might be detrimental to a Hollywood career.

"Still, after my first job I was on a stupid ‘sexy hunky hot list’ and then people didn’t take me seriously," he said. "If you want characters with depth but have been labelled ‘a dude who takes his shirt off,’ you’re not going to get those offers.”

Skarsgård was seemingly referring to his role in Zoolander. He told the publication that he was left auditioning for bit parts in and unsure about his future after the movie premiered.

The Big Little Lies star added that he wasn't sure if being attractive was actually the reason for his career momentarily stalling. “I don’t really know if that was the reason I wasn’t getting roles,” he told the publication.

Skarsgård has seemingly poked fun at being labeled hot in the past.

For instance, he infamously took the stage at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards wearing a tuxedo top without a pair of pants to present an award. At the time, the actor joked that he was showing off his body for his fans.

"I was going to go shirtless, but then someone told me Zac Efron did that two years ago here," Skarsgård explained, according to People.

Obviously, things have worked out in the years since Zoolander. Skarsgård has a new movie called The Northman out this month. However, he painted a less than idealized version of Hollywood in his interview with The Sunday Times.

“This industry is incredibly ridiculous,” he said. “In meetings people are really insecure and eager to please. But it’s a strict hierarchy. If people at the top say something is good, people fall in line."
