
Late Night Alto Crash Leaves Two Dead Another In Jail
***Update: According to the Alto Police Department, Alesia Annette Sidney, 54, of Lufkin, died in the hospital Friday morning due to injuries sustained in the crash that happened Sunday night.***
Many Texans hit the road Sunday night, headed home after enjoying a long weekend for Memorial Day. An intoxicated Alto, Texas man allegedly ran a stop sign, killing an Austin woman last Sunday night.

According to KTRE, the Alto Police Department said that around 10:55 PM on Sunday, May 25, 2025, Samuel Lee Schlemmer, 21, of Alto, ran the stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 69 and FM 1911.

He then allegedly collided with another vehicle that was carrying three people. Kevin McGary was the driver, no town given, and he was treated and released.
Austin Woman Traveling With Lufkin Couple Dies In Alto Accident
Alesia Annette Sidney, 54, of Lufkin, has now passed away from her injuries. Yvette Nicole McVey, 54, of Austin, died from her injuries sustained in the accident.
Schlemmer has been booked into the Cherokee County Jail for intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle, intoxicated assault with a vehicle, unlawful carrying of a weapon, and running the stop sign.
