The Lufkin Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that happened on Thursday, October 8th, 2020. It happened around 1:40pm at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Ellen Trout Drive.

A woman pulled out onto the loop in a Toyota Avalon and failed to yield the right of way to an 18-wheeler headed eastbound on Ellen Trout Drive. Her car was T-Boned on the drivers side. She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Billy Ball.

The driver of the 18-wheeler and his passenger were both taken to a local hospital where they were treated and released. The accident remains under investigation.

I saw someone on facebook ask about the wreck, so most likely, even a passerby could tell it was particularity awful. Please keep everyone involved in the accident and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

As our loop becomes a part of I-69, traffic has really started to speed up. Just like in other large cities, the speed limit is a mere suggestion. I've noticed our entire area picking up the pace, even on surface streets. Speed kills, we have seen it again and again..

This accident might not fit that criteria, but driving around that area, you can't easily see what you are pulling out in front of. There will hopefully be plans to either close those outlets, or put in feeder roads soon.

Be safe out there, and watch out for other drivers pulling onto the roadway on the HWY59, soon to be I 69 corridor. Its not finished, and this is not an interstate, just yet.
