Watching infomercials is as American as it gets.  I have wasted countless hours in my youth watching them.  I used to even watch the hour long ones.  I think the best part of these are the actors looking for a soultion to a problem, that for most of us doens't exist.  Here are the best of the best of infomercials doing it wrong.  All in one short easy video.  It's funny how most of these are fairly recent but they are in black and white to show people that this is the "old" way of doing things.  Enjoy, I am going to go get my pocket fisherman out.
