Well, if you were hoping that a few more months of work on the special effects would have made the Cats movie — based on the beloved Broadway musical — look any less weird, I have bad news for you: It did not.

Instead, Cats looks even weirder in its new trailer. There’s so much emphasis on the fact that one of these cats gets to die and live again. Hooray for reincarnation! (Reincatnation?) The “digital fury technology” still makes the cast look like surreal hybrid beasts, which I guess is what they were going for, but man ... I don’t know. Also, am I wrong or do the cats look really small? Like, I get they’re supposed to be cat-sized, but they seem so tiny. That somehow makes it even more bizarre.

Watch the trailer now:

Here is the film’s official synopsis:

Cats stars James Corden, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift, Rebel Wilson and introduces Royal Ballet principal dancer Francesca Hayward in her feature film debut. Featuring Lloyd Webber’s iconic music and a world-class cast of dancers under the guidance of Tony-winning choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton, In the Heights), the film reimagines the musical for a new generation with spectacular production design, state-of-the-art technology, and dance styles ranging from classical ballet to contemporary, hip-hop to jazz, street dance to tap.

Here are a few more new images from the film to feast your eyes upon. Normally I don’t just publish these promo photos from movies, but in this case, attention must be paid:

That last picture is definitely what I looked like while I watched this trailer. Just wow. Cats opens in theaters on December 20.
