Charli XCX and Bhad Bhabie Shine on Clean Bandit’s ‘Playboy Style': LISTEN
With their new album What Is Love? finally dropping this Friday, Nov. 30, Clean Bandit are giving us plenty of reasons to be excited, right up to the last minute.
Treating fans to an early taste of the album, the electronic trio just unleashed "Playboy Style" featuring Charli XCX and Bhad Bhabie, a bonus track off the deluxe edition. And hold up: If this BOP is a bonus track, just imagine how good the rest of the album is.
Listen to the track, below:
The song's foundation is a haunting melody played on keys, over a beat that's impossible not to nod your head to. Charli sings about an "undercover lover" she's falling for, only to realize he's more of a game playing playboy. We've all been there, girl.
"Fell in love with a bad, bad dude / Playboy style, shoulda' seen right through / All my friends, they could see the truth / You never loved me, you never loved me," she laments on the hook.
Bhad Bhabie soon comes through with a brief but scorching verse: "When you makin' checks on checks, they chase you for that dollar bill / But where the f--- was you, when all I had to eat was dollar meals?"
The horns toward the end are an unexpected treat that elevate the song to another level, just as it's ending. Hearing just a taste of the horns just makes us want to play the track again. Clean Bandits' MINDS!
"Playboy Style" follows Clean Bandit's "Baby" with Marina and Luis Fonsi, which dropped at the top of November, and is the album's latest official single. What Is Love? will also include the trio's previous hits, including "Solo" featuring Demi Lovato, "Rockabye" featuring Sean Paul and Anne-Marie, "Symphony" featuring Zara Larsson, and more.
