Could Lufkin Become Amazon’s New Headquarters?
Some big cities are putting their hat in the ring, but what about a small town in the middle of everything? I didn't mean for that to rhyme.
Lufkin being right in the middle of the biggest metropolitan areas of Texas, it seems a perfect fit, but what are the real deciding factors?
Could Lufkin support as many as 50,000 people coming into town? What about housing, infrastructure, and city government? Plus, who knows if we actually submitted one of the 238 proposals.
The current headquarters is in Seattle, was already a big city. Providing built in talent that took the jobs that they were offering. According to Amazon.com their investments in Seattle from 2010 to 2016 resulted in an additional $38 Billion added to the cities economy. So you can see why other big cities are courting Amazon.
Well Lufkin didn't actually submit one of the 238 proposals, so maybe this will be on the docket the next time around. That could be due to the fact that they might want to be on an interstate, and for now, that is not a reality in Lufkin, until the 69 corridor is complete.
Of the 238 proposals, two front runners have emerged, Austin, and Atlanta. They already have the talent in Austin for sure, they could easily headhunt from the local Dell headquarters in town. Atlanta, already has a huge economy and is the headquarters for UPS, so that could be alluring as well.
