DPS Vehicle Fatally Hits Pedestrian Near Trinity River Bridge
As Deep East Texans headed to Houston this morning (Aug 23), reports of a traffic slow down near the San Jacinto - Polk County Line, started pouring in.
A DPS Ford Expedition had hit a female pedestrian. No details on the victim have been released at this time. The DPS Vehicle was on the South bound side of Highway 59 when the accident occurred at around 6:30 am.
As of 9 am, traffic slowdown reports continued to come in from various sources, meaning they were still working the accident. If a peace officer is involved in an accident, especially involving a death, there are many more steps to the investigation. If it's the DPS they have to wait for an unrelated agency, such as the Texas Rangers, to finish processing the scene.
The slowdown continues, but the scene is almost completely cleared at this time. There will be an ongoing investigation, and we will update this page as they become available.
