Ed Sheeran gifted fans on the first day of 2017 with an announcement that new music will be coming this Friday, Jan. 6.

The announcement came in the form of a five second video clip on Twitter which showed Sheeran waving and holding a paper sign with the words, "New music coming Friday!!"

Sheeran, who took a self-imposed social media hiatus almost a year ago, first teased fans on Twitter with an image of a light blue box on Dec. 13. Sheeran's first album, +, had an orange overlay over the cover, while his second album, x, had a green background. Fans interpreted this to mean that his untitled third album will likely feature the color blue.

A year ago, Sheeran posted on Instagram that he was taking a social media break to focus on real-life efforts, including the third album.  “I’m taking a break from my phone, emails, and all social media for a while," he wrote. "I’ve had such an amazing ride over the last give years, but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes, so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.”
