The world has not been bereft of new Louis C.K. content, though FX viewers can’t help missing Louie. Network head John Landgraf now updates on the series’ future, also suggesting that Fargo may not return after Season 3.

Landgraf previously suggested that Louie might return once C.K. had reached some new phase of his life, and a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter went in-depth on their conversation regarding Season 5’s hiatus. For the most part, Landgraf remains optimistic the comedian might find new Louie stories one day, but cautions the series might not feel like it used to:

Louis is a major filmmaker as well as a major TV producer. There could be Broadway plays, too, and he’s still making money hand over fist as a comedian. What I would say is, I don’t think it’ll happen unless Louis has gone through a transformation in his life related to his kids getting older and changing his perspective and growing up. He has a different point of view about how he views life or who and what he is as a protagonist. I could see him coming back and making more episodes, but Louis wouldn’t be the same Louis by that time.

Perhaps more pressingly, Landgraf also seemed to suggest that FX’s Fargo might have reached a natural conclusion with Season 3:

There may never be another Fargo. Unless [creator Noah Hawley] has an idea for Fargo that he thinks he can make as good as the prior three. I think once people get to the end of this [season] they will find that it is thematically different. It’s really about the moment we live in now.

In truth, three seasons of Fargo have taken us from 2006 to 1979 to 2010 in different Minnesota regions, raising questions of future stories bringing something different to the table. Season 3 also garnered notably more chilly reception than its predecessors, while Hawley will soon busy himself with Legion Season 2.

Louie might be a lost cause, but is FX wise to think beyond Fargo for now? What other series might fill the gap?
