You don't usually associate Memorial Day weekend with getting a great deal on a clothes washer. There is a sales tax holiday starting Saturday, but it doesn't mean you can just buy any appliance; there is a catch of course.

You have to purchase the item from May 28th, 2022 to Midnight May 30th, 2022, and it has to be a particular Energy Star, energy-efficient product. It's called the annual Texas Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday and it's from the Texas Comptrollers Office.

Now that I think about it, the start of summer and a long holiday weekend might be the perfect time to shop for a big-ticket appliance for your home. You can buy, rent or lease only the following Energy Star labeled items tax-free.

  • air conditioners (with a sales price of $6,000 or less)
  • refrigerators (with a sales price of $2,000 or less)
  • ceiling fans
  • incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs
  • clothes washers
  • dishwashers
  • dehumidifiers

Not Every Energy Star Labeled Product Is Tax-Free This Weekend In Texas

Some Energy Star rated appliances, even with the sticker, do not qualify for the tax-free weekend.

  • water heaters
  • clothes dryers
  • freezers
  • stoves
  • attic fans
  • heat pumps
  • wine refrigerators
  • kegerators
  • beverage chillers

If you were planning on getting something special for your next keg party or wine night, it's a no-go. Hopefully with how inflated prices are this will help you on your way to getting that new appliance you have been waiting for.
