Hudson ISD Switches to Hybrid Graduation Due to COVID-19 Spike

In late April, Hudson ISD made the announcement that they would hold commencement exercises for their Class of 2020 graduates on July 18th at the Pentecostal Campground in Lufkin.  Administrators with Hudson had hoped that a graduation held at a later date in Summer would facilitate an in-person, indoor graduation.

However, on Friday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott enacted immediate changes leading Hudson officials to believe that the reality of having an indoor, normal graduation and even an outdoor graduation would be nearly impossible. This is not what Hudson administrators and staff wanted to be faced with at this time. However, according to an e-mail sent to students and parents, difficult decisions had to be made.

Hudson seniors will participate in a hybrid graduation ceremony which will be held in the Hudson Auditorium. Seniors will have the opportunity to cross the stage and receive their diploma. There will be a maximum of six (6) guests/family members that may attend. Only seven (7) graduates and their guests/family members will be allowed in the auditorium at a time. The area will be cleaned/disinfected after each group leaves the building. A photographer will be on site and a compilation video will be made for each graduate.

Hudson administrators extended their apologies to graduates and their families for this situation which ultimately is beyond their control.  John Courtney, Hudson High School Principal, will be communicating with the senior class and providing detailed information regarding this ceremony.
