New Academy Sports Store Planned for West Tyler in 2027

(Tyler, Texas) A second Academy Sports + Outdoors location is expected to open in Tyler in March 2027. Filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (CBS19) indicate the store will be located near Earl Campbell Parkway and SSW Loop 323, with an anticipated opening in early March 2027.

Shopping for sports and outdoor activities is about to become more convenient for west Tyler residents with another Academy Sports + Outdoors location coming to town. The new 55,000-square-foot, $6 million store is planned for the growing west side of Tyler.

What Will the New Academy Sports Store Sell?

The new location will give residents on the west side of Tyler another option when it comes to shopping for sports equipment, outdoor gear, clothing, and more. The existing Academy on South Broadway has served Tyler shoppers for years, but the addition of a second store could make a trip to Academy a little more convenient for people who live, work, or spend time on the west side of town.

Of course, it's not all about the outdoors. Sports will be a major part of the new store as well. When the store opens in the spring of 2027, it will be arriving just in time for spring sports season. Baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, pickleball, volleyball and more will be getting underway, creating plenty of opportunities for shoppers looking for equipment, apparel and other sporting goods.

Spring outdoor activities will also be well represented with fishing gear, outdoor grills, camping equipment, footwear and other recreational products. As warmer weather arrives in East Texas, the new store should give shoppers another nearby option for spring and summer recreational gear.

Construction on the new retail location is expected to begin in early November 2026, with hopes of opening in early March 2027. As with any construction project, the timeline and anticipated opening date could change as work progresses.

Why Is Academy Sports Adding a Second Tyler Location?

Academy Sports + Outdoors continues its expansion across Texas. The company is expected to open its new location in Mount Pleasant in the fall of 2026. This second Tyler location will join the original Tyler store on South Broadway, along with Academy locations serving shoppers in Palestine, Longview, Lufkin and Texarkana.
