Tyler Signs New Recycling Deal, Pickup Resumes Soon
(Tyler, Texas) Recycling is back in the Rose City.
Why Recycling Was Paused in Tyler
It's been more than a year now since the orange lid recycling bins sat curbside in front of Tyler homes. The city's contracted recycling center was destroyed by a fire in June 2024.
Rivers Recycling in Kilgore made the announcement last month that they would not be rebuilding and would be shutting down, leaving the city looking for options for recycling.
New Contract Brings Recycling Back
The Tyler City Council announced on Wednesday that citywide recycling pickup would resume the week of July 14th in Tyler, thanks to a new contract.
After signing a one-year contract with Northeast Texas Regional Materials Recovery Facility (NETX), Tyler residents will once again be able to recycle paper, aluminum and tin cans, and plastic products.
NETX will pay $75 a ton for recyclable materials, according to KETK, collected curbside and at the downtown recycling center.
How to Restart or Enroll in Recycling Service
For those residents who put a pause on their recycling account and maintained possession of their bin with the orange lid, nothing changes. They'll automatically be enrolled in the new system, and their bins will be collected twice a month according to the published schedule on the Tyler Talks Trash app.
Those who cancelled their service or wish to enroll in the recycling program will need to enroll by sending an email request to SolidWaste@TylerTexas.com or calling 903.531.1388. There will be a monthly fee of $5.96 plus tax to participate in the recycling program.

Guidelines for Curbside Recycling in Tyler
When it comes to recycling, there are some reminders to ensure the service runs smoothly:
- All recyclables must fit inside the cart.
- Cardboard should be broken down.
- Aluminum cans and plastic bottles should be crushed to save space.
- Items placed outside the cart may not be collected and could result in an additional fee.
All bins must be curbside by 6 a.m. the day of collection and be at least six feet from any fixed objects.
