This One Color Could Make Your Child Invisible in the Pool
(Mix 93-1) Wow! Just like that, and we're one-third of the way through summer break. So far, kids have been enjoying their free time by:
- playing video games
- swimming in the pool
- going on vacation
- reading some books - hopefully
- working a summer job
- sleeping late
As summer continues to pass us by, Texas kids will continue to spend a lot of time in the pool as the summer sun continues to heat East Texas. There is one important thing parents of children, especially little ones, should know when it comes to proper swim attire.
DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO WEAR A BLUE SWIM SUIT
There's a reason that life vests on boats are bright orange and neon colored; it's because they show up in water, whereas blue blends in much easier.
If your child were to become distressed while swimming and couldn't yell for help, and they went under, their swimsuit would act as camouflage in the water.
Why Blue Swimsuits Are a Problem
Blue swimsuits easily blend in with the water, making spotting your child much more difficult if they needed assistance from lifeguards, first responders, or you.

Choose Bright Colors for Pool Safety
Many others echo what this swim instructor has stated.
We want your child to continue to have fun this summer. So, if they have a blue swimsuit, toss it out and get a neon colored one for them. It's much easier to see.
When School Starts Back Up
We want them to be there for the first day of school, safe and sound, so they can reconnect with all their school friends.
By the way, the 2025-2026 school year for Tyler ISD will begin on Wednesday, August 13th. Sorry, I just had to mention that.
