Is J.K. Rowling Transphobic? Why the ‘Harry Potter’ Author Is Under Fire on Twitter Again
J.K. Rowling is under scrutiny for following YouTuber and “self-professed transphobe” Magdalen Berns on Twitter.
Berns herself shared an article about Rowling being faced with controversy over following her account. She also quote tweeted a fan who wrote that Rowling was "following a transphobe during Pride Month," simply adding, "Cool."
The discovery of Rowling's questionable follow comes after the author previously favorited a tweet which stated that transgender women are "men in dresses." Rowling's representative told a media outlet,“I’m afraid J.K. Rowling had a clumsy and middle-aged moment and this is not the first time she has favorited by holding her phone incorrectly.”
It should be noted that Rowling is also now following an outspoken advocate for trans people, who is trans herself. Twitter user @FionneOrlander replied to a fan asking what she felt now that Rowling follows her. "I'm still in shock. Twitter is a weird place," she wrote.
She also left a comment on an article about Rowling potentially being transphobic: "It's interesting even PN [Pink News] put the word transphobe in quotation.. P---k News are even you getting tired of rushing to the defense of... well... P---ks?"
