There is so much road construction going on all over Lufkin. The only issue lately is that it has all been paid for by TXDOT. Now, the Lufkin City Council has approved a program to repair 35 streets.

Billed as the 2025 Street Overlay program, it will goop some new sticky black asphalt onto about 40,000 feet of road, or approximately seven and a half miles of road. Now that they have determined which streets are in need of repair, the next step is to fire up the asphalt machines and get to work on the roads. Lufkin's very own street department is going to do the improvements.

They plan on using all of it to improve the streets and hit the goal of 40,000 feet. According to KTRE Lufkin's City Engineer Chris Key, if they finish the initial 35 streets and still have money left over, they plan to work another list of streets that could use repair but aren't as bad.

"This is what the overlay project is about: to give citizens a good quality street so they can get places in the city." - Chris Key
