I remember a few days ago that Nick Cannon was asked about the possibility of Mariah Carey going over to American Idol. He pretty much said it would cost twice what Jennifer Lopez was making. So now it seems that Fox has ponied up the money. Mariah is now, officially, a new judge on American Idol. Fox made the announcement just today.

Mariah says, "As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol. I can't wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon."
She also took to Twitter making sure everyone knew, "It's gonna be so much fun working on @AmericanIdol. As a singer-songwriter, I'm excited to help find and nurture new talent."
Mariah also phoned into Fox’s Television Critics Association panel in California, saying she is excited to join the show.
There are other bits of info coming in that Randy Jackson will not be a judge either this next season, and might just end up being a mentor on the show. So now we are down to just one Judge on American Idol...they might have 2 slots left to fill.
