They released the news in a post on Facebook at 6 AM this morning on their page. They expressed thanks and appreciation to all of their loyal customers in the community and surrounding areas.

There are years of lore, and other barbers who worked at the shop over the years, but the current Milford, Melissa McGowen, has decided to close after reopening in 2024. After James Milford died in 2024 and his brother in 2020, the no-frills barbershop is calling it quits.

Old-Fashioned Barber Shop Closed For Good In Nacogdoches

The barber shop was established in 1938 by Ocie Milford. I was not a customer, but my grandfather and uncles likely were. Living in the 50s in Nacogdoches to current day, Milford's was where just about everyone went to get a haircut.

In 2003, when the Space Shuttle exploded over Nacogdoches, James Milford made the national news and was quoted in many publications about the machinery that fell near his shop.

You still have time to stop in and get a fresh cut at one of the oldest operating barbershops in Deep East Texas. If nothing else, but to just sit on the bench and pretend to read the paper so you can listen in.
