When you see stories in the local crime news, you should remember these people are citizens like you. Felony arrests in Nacogdoches County aren't an automatic slam dunk, and sometimes people get accused of things they didn't do.

That was the case for Cody Alton Miller, 25, of Nacogdoches. According to the Nacogdoches Daily Sentinal he was accused of intentionally touching a child inappropriately in a swimming pool.

Miller was originally arrested on June 1st, 2023 and was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. His court trial ended on February 19, 2025.

Cases with no merit don't go far in the court system, so there must have been enough evidence at the time to prosecute. The jury in the 420th District with Judge Malcolm Bales presiding returned a verdict of not guilty after only 15 minutes of deliberation.

I can't imagine the relief for this man and his family, but I am sure some resentment of having to fight for your freedom in court sets in. It's not a cheap or easy process, especially when fighting charges like this.

Stasticly only 18% of cases that go to trial have not guilty verdicts. It is very rare, and even more rare in certain jurisdictions like ours.

No One Wins In Court Cases That Involve Minors

Being the defendant or the plaintiff in cases involving children is always hard. Hopefully all parties in this case can find peace.
