I usually keep up with all of the things going on with all the Parks and Recreation Departments in our listening area, but Nacogdoches Parks and Rec caught me sleeping. They have been making huge strides in the middle of a pandemic to improve and enrich the lives of people in Nacogdoches.

Stop by Pioneer Park and you will immediately notice the new disc golf baskets. In all there are 21 new disc golf baskets. Teams form the city removed the old baskets, and put in new ones last week. The old baskets will be repurposed at another location. There are reports of teams of disc golf players, out in the park, putting them to good use already.

If you have always wanted to learn sign language, they are offering classes. The second class is today. Each class will build on the previous class, so it might be too late to get in on this one, but so far you have only missed one. You must register before the class and there are limited in person spots. They are also doing a virtual version. Either one is just $5 a class. They are also offering Zumba classes.

The Banita Creek Dog Park and the Nacogdoches Farmers market also got some updates last week. Improvements included 3 new trail entrances, handicap access, and a new parking lot at the dog park. There are also plans to continue upgrades with new paint and more.

With more demand than ever for public Wifi, there is a long list of places around Nacogdoches that have free public access. Click Here To Learn More.

I'm glad to see things are moving right along, as the influx of students to SFA gets everything going again in the oldest town in Texas.
