To reduce the number of in person transactions the State Of Texas is giving drivers a pass for expired registration. If you just got your registration in the mail you will have a 60 day grace period, after TxDMV lets us know that regular vehicle titling and registration has been renewed.

They are doing this because of the Covid-19 outbreak, and to make sure we don't have to physically go to our local tax assessors office. According to TxDMV the Nacogdoches and Angelina County Tax offices are closed. Transactions are on hold until the stay at home order is lifted.

Expired Registration or Temporary Paper Plates will not be an offense. The TxDMV has let all local law enforcement know, and you will not get pulled over. You are still welcome to make online or mail payments.

(Update: Once covid was over things went back to normal and you can now get a ticket for expired registration)
