The Lufkin Parks and Recreation Department is having a blood drive just in time for Valentine's Day. If you are celebrating Galentines Day, or just the regular old Valentine's day, it's a great way to give back. Valentines day could be perceived as kind of a narcissistic holiday, so lets fix that narrative.

You can help them Pump The Love. Reserve your position for their blood drive coming up this Friday, February 13th, at the Lufkin Parks and Recreations new building on Montrose off Timberland Drive in Lufkin.

What's in it for you? They have really got a good incentive for this one. You not only receive an awesome t-shirt, free snack (got to have that) but you also get free Covid-19 Antibody testing. That is a big one right there. I would love to know if I had at anytime gotten the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and already have anti-bodies.

I speculate that the people having the least reaction to the vaccine, might just be people that have already had Covid, and didn't know it. Though these tests aren't always 100% accurate, it would be interesting. Getting a positive anti-body test isn't a license to go lick grocery carts, but it might give you a little peace of mind knowing that you might be somewhat less susceptible to the virus.

Luckily I am not a doctor, and these are just thoughts, so don't take my word for it. The blood drive will be administered by the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. They are well known in our area, and always run a clean and professional event.
