Ryan Murphy Sets FX Anthology ‘Feud’ Between Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon

We thought it crazy enough, the idea that Ryan Murphy would follow American Horror Story with another FX anthology like People v. O.J. Simpson, but can he pull off the hat trick? FX’s Feud aims to find out, pitting Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon against one another for a famous Hollywood rivalry with another all-star cast.

The Hollywood Reporter announced Murphy’s latest insane project, itself produced by none other than Brad Pitt, and featuring American Horror Story vet Lange and Susan Sarandon recreating the legendary Feud between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. The first eight-episode season would follow the famous dispute between the two for 1962 film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, with each season focused on a different … well, feud.

Not crazy enough? Alfred Molina will co-star as Baby Jane director Robert Aldrich, with Stanley Tucci as studio boss Jack Warner, Judy Davis as  gossip columnist Hedda Hopper and Dominic Burgess as film star Victor Buono. Murphy will also direct episodes, aiming for a 2017 debut, while the pilot will be based in part on the script Best Actress by Jaffe Cohen and Michael Zam.

Certainly The People v. O.J. Simpson turned out more successfully than anyone imagined, and one could easily chart an appreciation for old Hollywood building in American Horror Story (which itself remains without a clear focus in Season 6), but will Feud have the same magic?
