Melissa McCarthy's impression of Press Secretary Sean Spicer on the most recent Saturday Night Live episode was manic, unhinged and, according to Spicer, himself, actually pretty funny.

Spicer told Extra after the episode aired that he enjoyed McCarthy's take on his briefings, which included relentless mocking of Spicer's infamous, excessive gum-chewing and the Trump Administration's disdain of CNN . Still, he offered McCarthy some advice.

First, Spicer said McCarthy "needs to slow down on the gum chewing; way too many pieces in there." Also, he noted that she could "could dial back" a bit if she wants to really nail the character. Pretty even-tempered for a guy who spent his very first conference chastising the press over accurately reporting Trump's microscopic crowd at the 2017 inauguration.

On the other hand, Spicer has not been so keen on Alec Baldwin's running gig impersonating President Donald Trump, which he finds to be in poor taste.

"Alec has gone from funny to mean, and that's unfortunate. SNL used to be really funny. There's a streak of meanness now that they've crossed over to mean," he said.

Still, most outlets have found both impressions to be the driving force behind SNL's current success. The New York Times has called McCarthy's Spicer-impression "comic genius," noting she "set a new standard for cross-gender casting." And The Atlantic raved "McCarthy’s scene wildly exaggerated the characteristics that Spicer has thus far displayed while nailing the fundamentals of his id."
