When the Cannes Film Festival descends on the French Rivieira, movie billboards and banners crop up all around the Croisette area to catch the attention of industry big shots in town. One such poster advertised a little film called Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs, a new animated project out of Korea in which Chloe Grace Moretz voices the apple-eater of note. But the passersby at the festival were none too pleased with the advertisement; see if you can guess why:

The poster displays two Snow Whites with the tagline, “What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the 7 Dwarfs not so short?” It’s a real middle finger to any woman who dared to be over a size 2, and the trailer wasn’t much better. Watch below, as Snow White gets undressed, slips out of her magic shoes and instantly turns into a more full-figured woman, much to the confusion of a pair of randy dwarves peeping on her out of sight. It is, to put it plainly, weird and gross:

Moretz instantly shot back against the poster with a series of tweets, describing herself as “appalled”:

Moretz went on to clarify that the film’s aim is to promote body positivity by challenging the conception of what can be called beautiful in the first place — the polar opposite of the poster’s message. (The ad agency responsible has already retracted the campaign.) Whether this will hobble the film’s actual release has yet to be seen, but that trailer doesn’t inspire a whole lot of hope.
