Three new movies open nationwide today, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.  I saw the previews of all these when I went to see Puss N' Boots with the kids last weekend, and of them Hugo looked the most interesting to me at least. Here's a closer look:

* The Muppets -- Jason Segel, who co-wrote the screenplay for the film, plays Gary, who joins his Muppet brother, Walter, and his girlfriend, Amy Adams' Mary, in a quest to raise enough money to save the Muppet Theater from being demolished. Chris Cooper and Rashida Jones, plus Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and their Muppet friends, star. Rated PG.

* Arthur Christmas -- After Santa Claus forgets to deliver a gift to one child, his son embarks on a journey to correct the mistake before Christmas morning arrives. James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent and Bill Nighy lend their voices to the animated film, which is screening in 3D. Rated PG.

* Hugo -- Set in 1930s Paris, the story focuses on an orphaned boy who lives in the walls of a train station and tries to unlock the secret of a broken automaton left behind by his late father. Asa Butterfield, Jude Law, Chloe Grace Moretz, Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley and Sacha Baron Cohen also star in the Martin Scorsese-directed film, which is screening in 3D. Rated PG.
