The Poetry Slam at Standpipe is Getting Serious
It looks like the poetry slams at Standpipe are heating up.
It's been a while since I've dabbled with the art form of poetry, and I see these events pop up on my Facebook feed all the time, but something about pitting Tyler versus Lufkin makes this event seem more exciting than all the rest.
Who ever thought the word "versus" would go anywhere near the world of poetry, but there it is.
All the info you could need is on the flyer. It's going down at the Standpipe coffeehouse in downtown Lufkin, and is free to attend.
Here's a link to the Facebook event page to learn more about the special poetry "Grand Slam."
It even appears that there will be a cash prize of $100 and a physical trophy to take pride in.
All this talk of poetry has got me feeling inspired. I'm going to write a simple poem right now, and you can let me know what you think in the comments below.
You don't have to be a warrior, a gamer, or an athlete.
To see a new world in which you can compete.
With cash on the line, and a trophy to boot,
I'll tap into my creative side, and take home the loot.
This poem's not great, and probably doesn't need to rhyme,
If you could do better, well, I've got some time.So post your opinion of my amateur try
Just don't hurt my feelings, because I will cry." ~ Dan Patrick
