With hip-hop now assuming its position of music’s most streamed genre, there's no shortage of incredible albums out that are eligible for the 2019 Grammy Awards. The stakes may be high, but so is the reward.

This year’s nominees for the highly coveted Rap Album of the Year category, which were announced with all the other nominees earlier today (Dec. 7), are Invasion of Privacy, Cardi B; Swimming, the late Mac Miller; Victory Lap, Nipsey Hussle; Daytona, Pusha-T and Astroworld, Travis Scott.

As exemplified by both the quality and the quantity, rap has had a banner year, providing fans with no shortage of incredible music to listen to. From Cardi B's record-breaking domination of the charts to Scott's project recently re-entering the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200, rap has been winning big. We even saw fans finding ample ways to honor the legacy of the late Mac Miller, and of course, with the nods for. Pusha-T and Nispey Hussle, the battle for 2019 Rap Album of the Year is destined to be a close call.

Although hip-hop’s relationship with the Grammys has been far from perfect over the years, with countless artists voicing their frustrations, the Recording Academy has formed a new committee in hopes of cultivating a wider range of recognition, particular for artists of color and for women-identifying artists. This year's nominees across the board are beginning to reflect those newly implemented changes. As fans can recall, the category for Rap Album of the Year was added in 1995, with Naughty by Nature taking home the first award.

The 61st annual Grammys will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, with this year's festivities marking the coveted award show's return to the West Coast.
