Another example of how fast things can spread on social media and its repercussions.

A Texas billboard message gaining national attention will be taken down, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

In only one day, this post by Kyle Mccallie racked up close to 17,000 shares, nearly 700 comments and more than 2,000 reactions.

Mccallie said he saw this east of Vega, Texas on Interstate 40. Vega is located in the Texas panhandle, west of Amarillo and is less than an hour from the state border into New Mexico.

Mccallie's reaction of "I like it" didn't seem to resonate well, and has received much negativity on social media.

Burkett Outdoor Advertising, the owner of the sign, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram what has happened since the post went viral, saying the sudden surge of web traffic crashed the company's website Wednesday morning.

"I was shocked that it traveled that fast," Burkett told the newspaper. "I believe in free speech, but this country is divided enough as it is. I've spoken with the client, and he's agreed that it should come down. We'll be reimbursing him."

This billboard definitely doesn't match what my home state is known for: it's folksy, down-home feeling and friendly atmosphere.
