Wondering Why North Street Was Deserted Today?

From August until May - with the exception of a few weeks around Christmas and New Years - North Street in Nacogdoches seems to be packed all day and all night long. However, for those few months in between May and August, it drops down to basically no traffic.

Have you ever wondered why that is? It actually has something to do with an event that took place last weekend.

[FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE NACOGDOCHES NATIVES, YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION, BECAUSE YOU GUYS ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER]

For those of you who aren't natives, or are new to the area, it's because the Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjacks just finished up their spring semester. That means that many of them are heading to different locations for the summer. Whether it's home for the summer, traveling to take jobs/internships for a few months, studying abroad, or some other reason, they are not in Nacogdoches at this point. Lots of them graduated from SFA this past Saturday, and have left to start out on their career journeys.

It's actually a pretty interesting transition. As the students head out, the roads become easier to navigate, simply because the number of people in town changes so dramatically. Now, don't get me wrong, we love our Lumberjacks and we look forward to seeing them back in Nacogdoches. However, we are going to enjoy the easier commutes, shorter grocery lines, and other things that change with the coming and going of students.
