When a new business comes to Lufkin, residents usually can't wait for it to open. The story changes when a large truck stop/gas station opens in your backyard.

RaceTrac is building an 8,000-square-foot retail space with gas pumps and parking for big rigs at the corner of College Dr and US 59. It's much like the Exxon already in place across the street.

We are all for Lufkin continuing to grow until it affects our privacy and property values. According to the Lufkin Daily News the City of Lufkin invited Crown Colony residents for an information session.

Almost 50 people showed up, so they had to move the conversation to a larger venue. Many voiced their concerns in the meeting and called the proposed 6-foot fence insufficient.

City officials cited that the property has been listed as central business since 1981. It has always had commercial zoning, and the owners sold it to RaceTrac.

Residents hope to address their other concerns in an upcoming meeting at Lufkin City Hall with TxDot and Racetrac on April 1, 2024, at Lufkin City Hall at 5 PM.
