Every year, the Nacogdoches Parks and Recreation department puts on the Kid Fish program. This is an opportunity for kids from ages 1-16 to compete in a fun fishing tournament, and have the chance to win lots of cool prizes.

Kid Fish 2020 is set to take place this weekend, on Saturday, January 25th. Texas Parks and Wildlife will be stocking the Lakeside Park Pond with speckled trout for the kids to go after. Lakeside Park is located on Pearl Street, across from Lowe's. The map is shown below:

There will be all sorts of awards to compete for! There will be awards for both the largest and smallest trout caught, one for the heaviest stringer, and there will also be an award for the largest fish caught - no matter what species it is! Then, on top of that, there will be other giveaways throughout the event.

The fishing tournament is completely free to enter. You just have to provide your own fishing gear, and you have to get registered for the event. Registration begins at 8:00 AM on Saturday morning. The full event schedule is listed below:

  • 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM: Registration
  • 9:00 AM - Noon: Fishing, fishing, and more fishing
  • 12:15 PM: Prizes will be awarded.

All in all, this is set to be a pretty awesome event for the kids, no matter how much fishing experience they've got! If you need more information, it can be found on the Nacogdoches Parks and Recreation Facebook page.

Also, make sure you've got your rod and reel ready to go!
