If you regularly come to Nacogdoches to see the yearly blossoming of Texas's largest azalea garden, you might want to move those travel plans up a few weeks or even a month.

Nacogdoches Is Officially "The Garden Capital Of Texas"

According to the Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel, blooms have already started to make their appearance in the Mize Azalea Gardens.

The azaleas usually start popping in Nacogdoches in mid-March and the show continues until mid-April. Since the azaleas have begun to make an appearance, the display could be gone before the end of the regular season.

Nacogdoches Azalea Blooms Have Come Early This Year

That means if you were waiting until April to make your trip to Nacogodches, there might not be much left to see in the 11-acre Ruby Mize Azalea Garden. Visit Nacogdoches is trying to get the word out to plan your trips to the gardens early, so you don't miss out on the show.

Winter Storm Uri Put A Damper On The Azeala Blooms In Nacogdoches

In contrast to this early start to spring in 2024, Winter Storm Uri in Feb 13 - 17, 2021 had the exact opposite effect on the azeala gardens in Nacogdoches. The hard freeze during the storm caused the blooms to go missing.
