In case you didn't know, there will be some pretty major changes coming to the Nacogdoches roadways starting next week. Next week, according to a post on the Nacogdoches Main Street Facebook page, Austin Street - or at least the section from Raguet Street to North Street - will be closed to thru traffic, starting on January 2nd, and re-opening, if all goes as planned, sometime around spring 2020.

You can see the area of construction marked in red on the map below:

The work that will be done during this time includes widening of the road between North Street and Raguet Street from two lanes to four lanes, adding sidewalks along the roadside, and addition of a traffic signal at the intersection of Raguet and Austin.

You may remember just a few years ago when an almost identical project took place in the Nac city limits. The only difference was that those changes took place on Starr Street, on the other side of the SFA campus. This should be a much similar process.

I say all that to say this: Be Ready. If you're driving in Nacogdoches, this project will cause some delays in your commute. It all starts Wednesday, January 2, 2019.

For all the details on the project, you can check out the TxDOT website here.
