This Texas City Is Lowering Speed Limits After Investigation
When outsiders are driving in Texas the one thing they aren't ready for is the high speed limits. We do everything big in the Lone Star State and pride ourselves on stretches or long highways where you can go fast.
Our state's love for speed is highlighted on a stretch of State Highway 130. The skinny pedal gets a workout when the speed limit is 85 MPH.
It's not just the fastest in Texas, but the highest in the entire United States. So why would a state that loves freedom and the open road start lowering speed limits?
City Council Votes To Reduce Speed Limits In Dallas
When you think of crazy traffic in Texas, the City of Dallas will always come up in the conversation. This led to their local NBC affiliate DFW doing a traffic study to push the local government to change the limits.
NBC 5 Investigates clocked drivers on a notorious stretch of 1-75/Central Expressway from Mockingbird Lane to Woodall Rogers Freeway where the speed limit is 70 MPH. They found multiple vehicles driving over 120 mph and even 130 mph on a random Monday night.
This led to a speed study by the Texas Department of Transportation that found drivers regularly exceeding 100 mph on the highway. Now the Dallas City Council voted to reduce the speed limit to 65.

Though the speed limits were raised years ago to reduce congestion in the area, the toll it has taken was found to be too high. These measures will hopefully reduce the number of traffic accident fatalities in the area.
Though the reduction doesn't seem like much, it would mean that if you are caught going 95+ on the interstate, you could be arrested and your car impounded.
