Check Out These Road Trip Ideas Around Texas for Thanksgiving

Rather than spend Thanksgiving weekend at home eating too much and stringing up Christmas lights, maybe a road trip to one of these fun Texas events would be a better idea.  And we can still eat too much. Yay!

Texas is full of big events as we make the transition from Thanksgiving into the Christmas season.

The closest one is in Nacogdoches, and it's part of the Nine Flags Festival, which starts today and runs through December 12th.  The event pays tribute to the "Oldest Town in Texas" and celebrates the Nac's long and unique history.  Six different flags have flown over Texas, but Nacogdoches has had nine, because of the three attempts to establish a Republic of Texas that impacted it.  The Wassail Festival, scheduled for November 28th, is part of the Nine Flags Fest, and it will have merchants open from 11am to 4pm in Downtown Nacogdoches spreading the holiday cheer.

In Houston, the HEB Holiday Parade is happening Thanksgiving morning in Houston, and people say it's the biggest and longest running holiday parade in Texas.  This year's 66th annual parade runs through downtown Houston and starts at 9am.

The Chuy's Christmas Parade in Austin always happens the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so look for that on the 28th starting at the State Capitol and heading down South Congress.

Other states get all the attention for having the big holiday events, but Texas has some big draws too.  And we just might throw a breakfast taco or a brisket sandwich off of the float instead of messing around with those little Tootsie rolls.
