The Dia de los Muertos celebration is coming to downtown Nacogdoches, Texas on Saturday, November 4, 2023. Main Street will be awash in color for their 10th Annual Fiesta from 4 PM - 8 PM.
Dia de los Muertos is a bright Mexican tradition to honor the dead. Unlike the somber occasions in many other cultures, they celebrate the lives of their past loved ones.
It is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd every year. Though it is celebrated heavily here in the U.S. it is more widely observed in Mexico.
Fiesta Goers Build Their Own Alters To Honor The Dead In Nacogdoches
The event will start with a procession from the Cole Art Center to the CVB stage downtown at 4 PM. There will be performances there with Son de Mexico Folklorico starting at 5 PM.
At 7:30 PM Ketzaly Dance Folklorico will be there as well. You can find other featured performances at the intersection of Main and Fredonia.
A dancer procession with the Chikawa Aztec Dancers will start at 6 PM. During the day's events, you can also see all of the alters to honor the dead that festival goers have built.
Food Booths, Live Music, Artwork, And More At This Nacogdoches Festival
Live music will fill the streets, and all of this entertainment is free. There will be a free opening reception for Twenty, an exhibition featuring the work of Benjamin Munoz from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Cole Art Center at the Old Opera House.
The exhibit will be there through January 19, 2024.
This event is put together by the Nacogdoches Public Library with help from many different agencies, businesses, and organizations in Nacogdoches.
