  • 900 CVS stores closing
  • Transferring prescriptions
  • Last Day November 30, 2023
  • Formerly Eckerd Pharmacy

CVS is systematically closing down around 900 stores across the U.S. Until now that hasn't really affected us here in Lufkin.

CVS started popping up around town in the late '90s. The location at 923 W Frank in Lufkin, Texas was built in 1998.

For over 20 years people have been getting their prescriptions filled at the location. It's situated close to both hospitals and many doctors' offices in town.

Walgreens Moved In Right Across The Street From This CVS

CVS bought up all the Ekerd pharmacies and operated without much interference from big pharmacy competitors in the area until 2009. Walgreens opened that year across the street, just like what happened on Timberland Drive in the late '90s.

Now the CVS on Frank Street will be closing its doors for the last time on November 30, 2023, according to customers of the store. In the past when CVS locations have closed they send out text messages to all their customers, so they can start moving their prescriptions.

If you are a big fan of CVS stores and their services, the original store off Timberland on East Lufkin (1997) will stay open. CVS will still be the largest pharmacy chain in the U.S. after it cuts these 900 stores.

They cite online shopping as the reason for the closures.

Little Known Facts About CVS In Texas

Did you know that CVS stood for Customer Value Stores? It was shortened in 1996 to just CVS, saving a lot of money on signage.

They legally changed their name to CVS Health and removed tobacco products from their stores in 2014.
